Course introduction

Today, Ceramic Art falls into several sectors: crafts, semi-industrial production and contemporary art, thanks to its various applications including ceramic wall coverings, production of pottery pieces, ceramic sculpture, signature pieces and designer pieces. The constant development of ceramic techniques and artistic training through developing projects results in a highly creative course that immerses students in the infinite possibilities offered by ceramics.

Syllabus

This course has a duration of 2,000 hours divided across two years. The final project and an internship in a company, studio or workshop are included in this duration.

Who it is aimed at

This course is aimed at artists with an interest in ceramic art who have manual and precision skills, visual acuity combined with artistic creativity, imagination and excellent concentration. It is orientated around training professionals in extensive technical artistic and cultural knowledge that will enable them to carry out their activity in ceramics companies or by creating artistic work in their own workshop, whether this is in the arts, craft or industrial fields, giving them the abilities they need to control and organize the entire ceramic process.

Objectives

Main objectives of the Ceramic Art course:

  • Master   sculptural and expressive languages, and the procedures, tools and materials specific to manual and mechanical shape-making techniques.
  • Be able to define production aspects, formulate compositions, and prepare clays, glazes and ceramic colours.
  • Develop  critical thinking, perception, communication and aesthetic skills related to ceramics and contemporary art.
  • Acquire  critical resources and approaches applicable to conceptualization and the processes of creating ceramic projects in public spaces and nature.

Professionals in this field can work either as freelancers, or in companies and workshops related to their profession. The main jobs you could apply for once you have obtained the Advanced Certificate in Vocational Training in Ceramic Art are: ceramist, creator and maker of original ceramic works, ceramics and porcelain enameller, and porcelain modeller.
